SUMMARY:Super Saturday Lion Dance Parades in New York
DESCRIPTION:Our Public Service Reminder for Super Saturday! \nOn Saturday\, Feb.16th over 20+ lion dance groups will be parading throughout the streets of Chinatown. Each groups’ lions will go store to store blessing and eating offerings. This day is the best day to get up close and watch lion dancing. Don’t get confused with the float parade on the 17th where you’ll be stuck behind a barricade. \nDisclaimer: CFMAC is only in charge of our own parade\, each group parading is permitted by the local 5th Precinct. This event is created to inform those outside of the lion dance community of this day. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n

SUMMARY:Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco
DESCRIPTION:The Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco is one of the few remaining night illuminated Parades in the country. Started in the 1860’s by the Chinese in San Francisco as a means to educate the community about their culture\, the Parade and Festival have grown to be the largest celebration of Asian culture outside of Asia. Since 1958\, the parade has been under the direction of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce. \nOver 100 units will participate in the Southwest Airlines® Chinese New Year Parade. A San Francisco tradition since just after the Gold Rush\, the parade continues to delight and entertain the many hundreds of thousands of people that come to watch it on the street or tune in to watch it on television on KTVU Fox 2 or KTSF Channel 26\, 6:00-8:00 p.m.\, on Saturday\, February 11\, 2017. \nNowhere in the world will you see a lunar new year parade with more gorgeous floats\, elaborate costumes\, ferocious lions\, exploding firecrackers \, and of course the newly crowned Miss Chinatown U.S.A. and her court. A crowd favorite is the spectacular 268′ Golden Dragon (“Gum Lung”) It takes a team of over 100 men and women from the martial arts group\, White Crane to carry this dragon throughout the streets of San Francisco. \nThis year’s Southwest Airlines® Chinese New Year Parade promises to warm your heart and electrify your senses\, come rain or shine. \nThis is a smoke free event. \nParade Route

SUMMARY:The 118th Golden Dragon Parade & Chinese New Year Festival
DESCRIPTION:In celebrating over one hundred years of tradition\, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles presents the 118th Annual Golden Dragon Parade. With over thousands and thousands of individuals lining the parade route and thousands viewing the telecast each year\, this colorful celebrating along North Broadway in Chinatown has become the premiere cultural event in the Southern California Asian-American Community. \nSince the mid-1980’s\, the Golden Dragon Parade has expanded to include almost two dozen floats\, multiple marching bands\, government officials\, various dignitaries\, entertainers\, local business leaders and cultural groups. The parade theme emphasizes ethnic diversity\, Chinese culture and exposure to Chinese-American businesses. The parade continues to be a rich and diverse experience for Angelenos of all ages and ethnicities. \nThe day of the Lunar New Year is the most celebrated holiday of the year for nearly 1.5 million persons of Chinese\, Korean\, and Vietnamese descent in Southern California. It is celebrated with colorful festivals\, parades\, and most importantly\, large family gatherings. It is also a time when ancestors are fondly remembered and families give thanks for their blessings. Red packets of money (Lai see or Hung bao) and firecrackers add fun and excitement to the Chinese New Year celebration.
