Welcoming both competitive and recreational teams\, this event launches the dragon boat season on Cape Canaveral’s Banana River. \nOffering a fiercely competitive Sport Division and widely attended Community Division\, Space Coast sees a variety of teams from the south as well as visiting paddlers fresh from spring training camps. Space Coast is a must for established and entry-level teams alike looking to gain competitive experience within the sport-racing format. \nRace distances include 200m and 500m events for Sport and Community Division teams\, with the addition of the ever-thrilling 2k pursuit for Sport Division teams only. \nFestival grounds offer something for everyone. Spectators can take in the action from Manatee Sanctuary Park\, a perfect vantage point to follow the excitement of racing while learning about the sport of dragon boat. Another point of interest is the Walgreens Health and Wellness Village\, where participants and spectators can receive products and services to help maintain a healthy lifestyle. Families are invited to bring their children to enjoy games and activities offered at the Kids Zone. Paddlers will have space to relax with their teams in the Athletes’ Village.

SUMMARY:Third annual South Lake County Dragon Boat Festival 2016
DESCRIPTION:The event will feature local and regional boats\, and novice teams will receive instruction and all of the necessary equipment to race. High Five Dragon Boat will provide a steer person for each team. \nSpectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to watch the races\, which are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Organizers say about 4\,000 people attended last year’s event. \nAll proceeds will benefit New Beginnings — the event’s host — which serves homeless families\, individuals\, children and other charities in the area by providing them with transitional housing\, job skills and training. \nFor those new to sport\, dragon boats are about 42 feet long\, with 10 rows that seat about 20 paddlers. A steer person stands in the stern and uses a 9-foot oar to help guide the boat. A drummer sits in the bow facing the paddlers. The drummer’s job is to beat the drum in sync with the paddlers and to motivate the team to the finish line. Rowers work in unison to cross the finish line at the fastest speeds possible.

DESCRIPTION:What better way to blast off the Walgreens MLDB series than with a trip to Florida’s Space Coast? Welcoming both competitive and recreational teams\, this event launches the dragon boat season on Cape Canaveral’s Banana River. \nOffering a fiercely competitive Sport Division and widely attended Community Division\, Space Coast sees a variety of teams from the south as well as visiting paddlers fresh from spring training camps. Space Coast is a must for established and entry-level teams alike looking to gain competitive experience within the sport-racing format. \nRace distances include 200m and 500m events for Sport and Community Division teams\, with the addition of the ever-thrilling 2k pursuit for Sport Division teams only. \nFestival grounds offer something for everyone. Spectators can take in the action from Manatee Sanctuary Park\, a perfect vantage point to follow the excitement of racing while learning about the sport of dragon boat. Another point of interest is the Walgreens Health and Wellness Village\, where participants and spectators can receive products and services to help maintain a healthy lifestyle. Families are invited to bring their children to enjoy games and activities offered at the Kids Zone. Paddlers will have space to relax with their teams in the Neutrogena Suncare Athletes’ Village. \n  \n
