The first-ever AAPI Hob Nob & Community Resource Fair, hosted by AAPI Coming Together (ACT), brought together over 200 community members on Saturday August 23 at Pine Hills Elementary for a vibrant celebration of civic engagement, culture, and connection. The event featured a mock election and straw poll, giving attendees an opportunity to experience the voting process and share their voices in a fun, educational way.

Local candidates for Orlando City Commission (election in November) and Orange County Commission as well as candidates for the recent Orange County special elections, joined the Hob Nob to meet directly with the AAPI community, answer questions, and share their platforms. Alongside them, community organizations and resource providers tabled throughout the fair, offering valuable information on health, education, public services, and civic participation. There was also a first-ever mock election for the special elections with over 85 votes cast!

The day also highlighted cultural performances by UCF’s Filipino Student Association and Bengali Student Association that showcased the richness and diversity of AAPI traditions, adding color and spirit to the event while celebrating heritage and identity. Families and individuals alike enjoyed both the cultural and civic aspects, underscoring the power of bringing people together through shared values of democracy, inclusion, and representation.

The Hob Nob was a meaningful step toward building stronger bridges between the AAPI community and civic leaders, empowering residents to be informed, engaged, and active participants in shaping Central Florida’s future.

The event was in partnership with Florida Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders for Progress (FLAAPP), Greater Orlando Asian American Bar Association (GOAABA), Asian American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida (AACC), Orange County Supervisor of Elections, League of Women Voters of Orange County, Asia Trend, the Greater Orlando Chinese Professionals Association (OCPA), and many other community members.
