The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI), invited by Mishima Town in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, participated in the 38th Kojin Matsuri crafts fair on June 8 and 9. At the event, the NTCRI showcased Taiwanese community crafts such as persimmon-dyed fabrics and Indigenous weaving products, highlighting Taiwan’s diverse craft culture.
In addition to the NTCRI, several local organizations from Taiwan were invited to Mishima, including the Taiwan Yuan Li Handiwork Association (臺灣藺草學會), the Hualien Kavalan Development Association (花蓮縣噶瑪蘭族發展協會), and the Taitung County East Coast Indigenous People Community Cooperative (台東縣東海岸原住民社區合作社).
Mishima Town, known for its advocacy of craftsmanship, emphasizes the knowledge, philosophy, techniques, and sentiments of traditional crafts while promoting the integration of these crafts into modern living. Following the signing of an agreement on Sept. 22, 2023, the NTCRI aims to continually deepen the exchange of craft culture with its Japanese counterpart.
