South Florida’s End-of-Year Party

On December 4 2025, the Japan-America Society of Miami/South Florida (JASMSFL) concluded the year with a festive Bōnenkai, or “forget-the-year” gathering, held at the Coral Gables Museum. Guests came together in a spirit of friendship and cultural appreciation, reflecting on the past year while looking ahead with optimism to the new one.

South Florida’s End-of-Year Party

Consul General Nakano of the Consulate General of Japan in Miami attended the celebration, underscoring the strong ties between Japan and South Florida.

The evening featured special guest Mr. Nambu Hakuun III, a third-generation master of Inami woodcarving, one of Japan’s most revered traditional crafts. His live carving demonstration captivated attendees, showcasing the precision, artistry, and cultural heritage embedded in this centuries-old technique.

Participants were also invited to try woodcarving themselves, offering a rare hands-on opportunity to experience Japanese craftsmanship firsthand and create lasting memories.

A highlight of the night was Master Nambu’s extraordinary performance, which brought the depth and beauty of Inami woodcarving to life. Guests were deeply engaged, enjoying both the artistry and the warm sense of community that reflects the Society’s mission of strengthening cultural connections between Japan and South Florida.
