
The City of Tampa Mayor’s Asian American Paicific Islander Advisory Council hosted the second Miss Asia Pacific Scholarship Pageant and the Asian Pacific IDOL on Saturday, May 3rd at the Barksdale Community Center in Tampa.
Three ladies from different schools representing the Philippines, India, and Vietnam, participated at this years scholarship pageant in their fabulous national attired. Since there were only three contestants this year, all three were awarded the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd cash prizes. Vietnam coveted the most votes from very qualified judges and won the title as Miss Asia Pacific Scholarhsip Pageant this year and received the major prize of $1000. Then India got the 1st runner up with $700, and the Philippines with $500 as the 2nd runner up.
There were seven who competed for the Asian Pacific IDOL singing competition and the one and only winner went to the Philippines. 1st runner up was Thailand, and 3rd place went to another Philippines! Philippines, Thailand, India, China, Korea, were the countries who participated this year singing completion. The IDOL winner received $500.
As and additional entertainment, Jenny Yu presented her unbelievable magic with audience participation. And Howard Yu’s orchestra.

All contestants received a Certificate of Appreciation from Mayor Castor who also had a proclamation of the Asian American Pacific Islander Heritaga Month of May read by Raquel Pancho of AAPIAC. emcee was Nerissa Lamison and past pageant winners.
