On October 3, 2025, Consul General Junya Nakano hosted a Welcome Back reception to celebrate the return of JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Program participants from Florida after their time in Japan. At the event, five returning JET participants had the opportunity to connect with members of the Florida JET Alumni Association, the Japan-America Society of Miami/South Florida, the Japan Business Association of Miami, the Miami Japanese Language Meetup Group, as well as university and high school educators from across Florida’s Japanese community.

The JET Program is one of Japan’s most successful exchange initiatives, allowing participants to live and work in cities, towns, and villages across the country. Most serve as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs), teaching English in schools, while others work as Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs), assisting local municipalities with international programs and providing translation and interpretation support.

Consul General Nakano extended a warm welcome and heartfelt congratulations to the returning JET participants, highlighting their continued role as cultural bridges between Japan and the United States. He encouraged them to share their experiences and actively contribute to deepening mutual understanding within their workplaces and communities. He also expressed his hope that the reception would provide a meaningful opportunity to connect with Florida’s Japanese community and foster lasting friendships. The evening concluded successfully, with guests exchanging stories from their time in Japan while enjoying Japanese cuisine and refreshments.
