“BARRIO FIESTA AND SANTACRUZAN’ IN TAMPA
After two and a half years of absence, the Pilipino-American Association of Tampa (PAAT) will hold their ever-so-popular annual “Barrio Fiesta and Santacruzan” on SUNDAY AUGUST 21st, at the Bayanihan Arts & Events Center located at 14310 Nine Eagles Drive, Tampa, Florida 33626. The event opens at noon and will last until 6 pm. A $5 donation is required, and children 5 and under enter FREE.
As always, there will be a lot of children and adult games, folk dances, singers, and food and merchandise vendors. The event’s highlight is the religious procession called “Santacruzan,” a tradition introduced to the Philippines from Mexico in the 15th century. Santacruzan will parade invited young ladies from the Philippine community representing different saints with the main queen called “Reyna Elena,” based on Queen Helena of Greece. She carried the relic of Jesus’s cross. The search is now on, on who this year’s queens and Reyna Elena will be. This year’s emcee will be Emil Cruz, alias “EM-C.”
Interested vendors and performers, please call JOEY OMILA at (813) 312-6518.
