Over 50 members joined the event, together with of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami, Orange County Mayor’s Special Assistant Shally Wong, and Asia Trend. The online tickets were sold out!
Festival director Nina Streich was over the moon—she kept telling people how amazing our Taiwanese Association is.
The film tells the life story of Paul Bridgewater, a key figure in the East Village art scene. At 18, he left California, came to New York with nothing, and started as a waiter. By the 1980s, he had become one of the driving forces behind the East Village art movement. Director Liang spent nearly ten years capturing his passion and dedication to art with a deeply moving lens. Truly inspiring.
║ Taiwanese people not only tell our own stories well, but also tell others’ stories beautifully. ║
During the Q&A session, Director Liang shared many insights with the audience. The discussion was lively and heartfelt.
We’re so glad our association could partner with the Global Peace Film Festival to build more connections and collaboration.
Man From Pretentia: A New York Story” is a compelling documentary that offers an insightful portrayal of Paul Bridgewater, an eccentric and charismatic art dealer in New York City. Arriving in Manhattan at the age of 18 after hitchhiking from his hometown, Bridgewater quickly became a cherished figure within the art community. The film captures his vibrant personality as he prepares gallery exhibitions and crafts gourmet meals in his modest East Village apartment, all while his deep passion for art remains evident. Renowned for his exceptional ability to identify and nurture artistic talent, Bridgewater significantly influenced numerous careers. However, his indifference towards financial matters ultimately led to his downfall. This documentary serves as a heartfelt and nostalgic homage to a unique and dedicated art enthusiast.
