4th Annual Lunar New Year Festival for the Year of Monkey at IMAS!

McAllen, TX- Celebrate the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Monkey with a fun-filled day of cultural activities at the International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) on Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Now in its fourth year, the event seeks to highlight the rich diversity of the Rio Grande Valley’s Asian Community and experience the traditional folk customs!
Lunar New Year, also called Spring Festival in China, has more than 4,000 years of history. It is the grandest and the most important annual event for Asian people. The festival is not only observed in China mainland, but also celebrated in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and some other Asian countries such as Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam, and around the world including right here in the Rio Grande Valley. Many unique traditions make this holiday a significant cultural celebration.
This year’s lineup of events will offer visitors a range of fun, family-friendly activities. Guests will have the opportunity to try out traditional Asian games, learn the ancient art of Origami, and experience a tea tasting and presentation. Visitors will also be able to learn the basics of calligraphy, hear traditional musical instruments, taste traditional Asian cuisine and more.
