“Ten Drum Art Percussion Group” toured on May 7th, stirring Central Florida with the “Impression of Taiwan”! This visit marked the group in Orlando’s first performance, organized by Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of Greater Orlando TCCGO held at the University of Central Florida (UCF).
The recognition of the “2024 U.S.-Taiwan Traditional Week and Canadian Asian Heritage Month” is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of these regions. This initiative can foster greater understanding and appreciation for the traditions, customs, and contributions of the Taiwanese and Asian communities in both countries. It serves as a reminder of the importance of diversity and inclusivity in our societies.
Overseas Taiwanese communities in the United States and Canada have organized various activities to celebrate. The Overseas Community Affairs Council, in collaboration with various government departments, dispatched Taiwan’s famous “Ten Drum Art Percussion Group” to tour 13 cities in the eastern United States and Canada.
Charles Chou, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami, accompanied by Overseas Community Affairs Secretary Steve Huang, attended the performance. Also present were Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings, Orange County Arts and Cultural Affairs officer and many community members from Central Florida, Tampa and Miami.
Mayor Demings presented a proclamation, acknowledging the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of Greater Orlando TCCGO’s contribution to promoting cultural exchange and economic development in Orange County.
President Ms. Mary Liang of the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of Greater Orlando TCCGO, the organizer, expressed great honor in inviting such an excellent performing group. She stated that through the cross-cultural exchange of drumming art, more people could witness the beauty of Taiwan.
Director General Chou welcomed the Ten Drum Art Percussion Group’s first visit to Florida. He emphasized how the drumming art narrates the story of Taiwan’s indigenous culture. He also encouraged everyone to visit Taiwan, especially the Ten Drum Cultural Village in southern Taiwan.
