Now in its 26th year, “PhilFest 2022” will take place on April 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The festival is now considered the in the whole of East Coast if not in America with more than 12,000 people from all over the State of Florida attending year after year.
PhilFest offers variety of Filipino foods, non-stop entertainment, Philippine folk dances, street parades, cultural exhibits, singing and dancing competitions and much more. One of the most popular foods in the festival worth lining up for hours are the fried “carioca balls” made of sweet rice. Coming to PhilFest is like going to the Philippines without the 21 hours flight and experiencing the Filipino hospitality they are known for. This year’s special guests will be JR and Mica Javier and Don Tagala, from ABS/CBN, one of PhilFest major sponsor.
This year, 22 members of the Kagayanon of Southern California headed ex-presidents Rose Omila-Garrido and Norma Lorenzana Navarro, Joe Garrido who is the current Vice President, and Gerlou Gaane wife if of the founder, and the Bukidnon Association of California headed by their current president Merle Luminarias.
The 3-day festival starts at 5 pm to 11 pm on Friday, April 1st, on Saturday, April 2nd from 10 am to 11 pm, and on Sunday, April 3rd from 10 am to 11 pm. Entrance is only $8 per person. Advance discounted tickets are now available but must be bought one week before the festival. Children 5 years and under enter free. Veteran’s and Servicemen with valid ID also enter free of charge. “PhilFest” is an annual event organize by the Philippine Cultural Foundation, Inc. (PCFI) a notfor-profit 501c3 cultural foundation whose purpose is to preserve the Philippine culture and traditions for future Filipino American generations to come.
The festival is held at the 10-acre Philippine Enrichment Complex located at 14301 Nine Eagles Drive, Tampa, Florida where the spectacular “Bayanihan Arts & Events Center” is also located. This year, once again, the Bayanihan center have its annual cultural exhibits all about the Philippines. The exhibits are free to all wearing their PhilFest armbands.
