The time has come again where we gather our friends, family, and loved ones to celebrate the Vietnamese New Year, or what is commonly known as Tết!
WHAT IS TET:
Tết is the celebration of the arrival of spring and the first month of the Lunar Calendar. In Vietnam, this week-long celebration encompasses paying respects to deceased family members, eating family meals, playing traditional games, and spending time with family. Children also receive red envelopes, called lì xi, filled with money after they pay respects to their elders.
The Vietnamese Student Organization at the University of Florida would like to cordially invite you to celebrate Tết with us on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Reitz Grand Ballroom (686 Museum Rd, Gainesville, FL 32611). This year, the theme of our show is “A New Age,” which encompasses and celebrates the youth and future of our generation–the leaders of tomorrow.
The theme of our show will especially focus on Kids Without Borders in hopes of raising awareness of our national philanthropy. Founded by Son Michael Pham, Kids Without Borders is an international nongovernmental organization that supports and works with disabled children, particularly those living in orphanages in Vietnam.
Kids Without Borders is built upon the motto, “Service Above Self,” and VSO wishes to spread and uphold this saying by holding a clothing drive. For every 5 articles of clothing that is donated, you will receive one raffle ticket! All donations and proceeds will be donated to Kids Without Borders.
So, without further adieu, come spend time with your Gator family and enjoy a beautiful show with performances, raffle prizes, food, dancing, and modeling! We hope to see you there!
