On the eastern edge of Aizu-Wakamatsu City in Fukushima Prefecture and just 10 minutes from the city center is Higashiyama Onsen. Here, hot springs abound. One notable establishment, Harataki, is well worth checking out. Nestled against the side of a mountain and a stream with waterfalls, it has nature within a hand’s reach. Of special note, there is an outdoor dining patio replete with self-contained waterfalls as well as luxurious wooden booths with eye-catching umbrellas covering them. After enjoying the amenities at Harataki, pop on over to see Tsuruga Castle and catch the autumn foliage which is lit up in the evenings.
