A mother and her baby camel, Solomon, wandered around, when suddenly Solomon asked, “Mother, may I ask you some questions?
Mother said, “Sure! Why son, is there something bothering you?”
Solomon said, “Why do camels have humps?”
Mother said “Well Solomon, we are desert animals, we need the humps to store fat and we are known to survive long without food or water”.
Solomon said, “Okay, then why our legs are long and our feet are rounded?”
Mother said, “Solomon, obviously they are meant for walking in the desert. You know with these legs we can move around the desert better than anyone does!”
Solomon said, “Okay, then why our eyelashes are long? Sometimes it bothers my sight”.
Mother with pride said, “My dear Solomon, those long thick eyelashes help to protect your eyes from the desert sand and wind”.
Solomon after thinking said, “I see. So the hump is to store fat when we are in the desert, the legs are for walking through the desert and these eye lashes protect our eyes from the desert sand, then what are we doing here in the Zoo!?”
Important note: If you ever get to visit Israel, so pass by the Biblical Zoo and take a photo of the baby camel Solomon and his mother, you can easily recognize them, they have humps, long legs and rounded feet and long eye lashes.
Stop! Stop! Stop!
Is this how you would like your life to end, in a zoo?
There is another version to the story, that Solomon the baby camel has made wings for himself and for his mother (pigeon feathers and beeswax that he found in the zoo) and they flew to the desert, free and happy till this very day.
Some say that the baby Solomon has developed several technological innovations; grew a number of oasis plots filled pine trees in the desert, growing dates; founded an association for animal’s rights in Israel and won a lot of awards.
The moral – not only for camels!
- Talent, Skills, knowledge, abilities and life experience are only useful if you are at the right place.
- Always ask ‘Why?’
- Imagination is your wings
THE END
By the author:
The human zoo… We surround ourselves with barriers, walls and fences, as if to protect us and assure our freedom. What freedom? In what price?
Many compare the modern schooling system to prisons. What about you?
Do you feel imprisoned by the current system, just like that camel, Solomon?
Freedom to think inside the box
When life conditions were fixed and shaped by tradition, nation and culture, men was supposedly lead to a specific lifestyle. When the power of those became weak and the outside freedom grew men’s lives and their identity became more and more dependent in oneself. What was once used to be decided, chosen and shaped for the individual, with no option or choice to take part, becomes in our days to a personal decision, independent and free.
What’s the meaning of all that?
First, in our times it is needed a stronger inner strength to deal with the open liberated life entity relatively to the past. What used to carry men and culture in the past needs nowadays to arrive from inner personal creative strengths of the man himself. The key to respectfully dealing with the open reality of the western world is: inner active and creative force, for a daily creation of that existence that before had obviously arrived from the outside.
This freedom comes with great cost and the main question is how you chose to deal with life, with the independence and freedom that life offers you? In other words: what is the philosophy that with its help you choose to see things – do you manage to see the best in every situation, even in the bad? Do you manage to live in the present without getting burnt from the past and blinded from the future?
I want you to remember that there is always a choice. There are many living, learning and working alternatives out there, in fact the world is transforming so fast and in such a dynamic pace that we see more and more innovative environments and programs that are preparing us for the uncertainty of life and the future.
More than Education – Mais que Educação
Remember! Life is valuable if you try. You must try to do something with what you know! Commit to yourself to try! As you write the book of your life and in order to win you must learn to stay. Life is meaningful if you stay! If you accept the challenge! Let others deal with the small things and start thinking of how you wish to live and not just of how to work, think of how to develop the skills to life as you would have wished to look back and say: my life were one big unique adventure.
As we join together, forming networks of human concern about the future, we will find the strength and wisdom needed to create a better future for all.
Raising humanity on a new path
It all starts with YOU!
With playful regards,
