Japan Culture Day

On November 16, Japan Culture Day was held at University of West Florida’s (UWF) Japan House in Pensacola, with Consul General Junya Nakano and his team in attendance. Co-hosted by UWF’s Office of International Affairs and the Japan-America Society of Northwest Florida, this fifth annual event welcomed a wonderful turnout once again.

In his opening remarks, Consul General Nakano expressed his sincere appreciation for the city’s longstanding dedication to cultural exchange and to strengthening ties between Japan and the United States. He also shared his hope that the day’s activities would inspire attendees to further explore both traditional and modern aspects of Japanese culture.

Throughout the day, attendees had the opportunity to see Japanese cultural demonstrations, including traditional Japanese dance, the tea ceremony, JPOP dance, gagaku (Japanese imperial court music), martial arts, and Eisa (Okinawan Taiko drumming). Visitors also had the chance to practice origami, learn Japanese phrases, learn more about the Japan Exchange & Teaching Program, learn about anime and take photos in traditional Japanese clothes.

The Consul General was very pleased by the continued commitment to cultural exchange in Pensacola. We look forward to seeing these efforts grow and strengthen the ties between Japan and Florida for many years to come.
