The Murder of Vincent Chin, A Trial Reenactment

Oct 29, 2020 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

The Murder of Vincent Chin, A Trial Reenactment
In 1982, Vincent Chin was beaten to death in Detroit. Although the assailants pleaded guilty to killing Chin, they never spent a night in prison. This injustice galvanized the Asian American community. Join APABA South Florida as we re-examine Vincent Chin’s legacy in light of a recent increase in discrimination and violence against Asian Americans.
In a live virtual performance, a cast of attorneys and judges will re-enact the trial from a script created from the actual court records and transcripts.
This re-enactment is presented by the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of South Florida and co-hosted by our sister Florida APIA bar associations: the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Tampa Bay, the Greater Orlando Asian American Bar Association, and the Jacksonville Asian American Bar Association.
Special thanks to the Asian American Bar Association of New York for permission to use the script, Building Our Legacy: The Murder of Vincent Chin.
APABA thanks the Florida Bar YLD for its support of this event. Additional thanks to Greenberg Traurig PA, our technology sponsor.
APABA thanks our event sponsors for their generosity in supporting this re-enactment:
– Kozyak Minority Mentoring Foundation
– Margaret Chow Starner
