Japan Immersion Day

On February 24, the annual “Japan Immersion Day” was held at Florida International University (FIU). This event was sponsored by the Consulate General of Japan in Miami, the FIU Japan Club, as well as other local organizations to deepen an understanding of and increase an interest in Japanese culture.

Ten different activities were hosted throughout FIU, including calligraphy, ink brush painting, braided cord bracelet, video games, origami, Kimono try-ons, Japanese drumming, tea ceremony, flower arrangement, and chopstick & hachimaki workshops.

Also co-sponsored by the FIU Department of Modern Languages and FIU Asian Studies Program, Immersion Day provided a space for FIU, Miami-Dade College, and some local high school students to engage in and learn about Japanese culture.

Lastly, the Consulate General of Japan in Miami presented the students with a fun quiz to test their knowledge on Japanese culture. We thank everyone who participated and helped to organize the event, especially the @fiujapanclub members who ensured the day ran smoothly, and we are looking forward to next year’s, as well!
