A Taiwanese charity has donated assistive devices for people with physical disabilities in Haiti through the United States-based Food For The Poor.

The donation of 175 wheelchairs, 280 walkers, and four commode chairs was presented Monday to the nonprofit group by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami, Taiwan’s representative office in the city, on behalf of the Cao Zhong Zhi Foundation (曹仲植基金會).

Food For The Poor President Edward Raine expressed his gratitude to the Cao Zhong Zhi Foundation and Taiwan’s government for supporting its humanitarian aid projects, saying the devices will benefit Haitians in desperate need of assistance.

Raine said his organization values deeply the partnership it has built with Taiwan over the years and is looking forward to continuing the collaboration in various forms in the future.

Amino Chi (紀欽耀), director-general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami, said the donation by the Cao Zhong Zhi Foundation was another example of Taiwan’s civil society playing a bigger and active role in contributing to the international community.
